Hennessey reveals 704hp HPE700 upgrade for McLaren MP4-12C
Hennessey Performance has launched the HPE700 package for the McLaren MP4-12C, lifting output to 704hp and promising a 0–60mph time of just 2.8 seconds.
Hennessey Performance Engineering has introduced its HPE700 tuning programme for the McLaren MP4-12C, raising the British supercar’s power output to 704hp and 728Nm of torque. The Texas-based tuner’s upgrade, announced in September 2013, pushes the twin-turbo V8 well beyond its original factory figures.
The HPE700 package focuses on mechanical changes, leaving the MP4-12C’s exterior and interior largely untouched aside from Hennessey badging and a numbered dash plaque. Hennessey’s engineers have recalibrated the engine control unit, fitted a stainless steel sports exhaust and upgraded the intercooler. These modifications account for an increase of 88hp and 130Nm over the standard car.
Performance claims from Hennessey put the 0–60mph sprint at 2.8 seconds, which is 0.3 seconds quicker than the factory MP4-12C. The company has not published a revised top speed figure, but the standard car is already capable of over 200mph. Hennessey’s approach mirrors its previous work on supercars, targeting straight-line acceleration without altering the car’s appearance or daily usability.

Hennessey’s upgrades push the engine to 704hp (525kW) and 728Nm (538lb ft), with the bulk of the gains coming from increased turbo boost and improved thermal management.
No changes have been made to the suspension, brakes or aerodynamics, so the HPE700 retains the standard car’s handling characteristics. The focus remains on straight-line performance, appealing to owners seeking extra pace without compromising the original balance engineered by McLaren. Visual changes and availability
Cosmetic differences are minimal. The only visible alterations are discreet Hennessey exterior badges and the serialised interior plaque. The package is aimed at owners who want increased performance while keeping the car’s understated appearance.
At launch, Hennessey had not announced pricing for the HPE700 package. The company’s previous tuning kits for supercars have typically been available both in the US and for export, though installation is usually handled at its Texas facility.
The HPE700 joins a small but growing field of aftermarket upgrades for the MP4-12C, which was McLaren’s first volume production model. The approach taken by Hennessey differs from some European tuners, who often add aerodynamic or visual enhancements alongside power upgrades.
