Hirsch has introduced a performance and styling package for the 2009 Saab 9-3 Cabrio, targeting buyers after more power and sharper looks than the standard convertible. The Swiss tuning firm focused on both aerodynamics and output, delivering a comprehensively reworked model.

Engine and performance

The Hirsch Edition 9-3 Cabrio uses Saab’s 2.8-litre turbocharged V6, which receives a power upgrade from 280hp to 300hp. Torque rises to 400Nm. The result is a 0-100km/h time of 6.4 seconds and a claimed top speed of 260km/h. These figures put the convertible on par with some of the era’s more focused German rivals.

Exterior and chassis changes

Aerodynamic changes include a new carbon fibre front splitter, mesh grille and a rear diffuser that incorporates new exhaust tailpipes. Hirsch engineers developed the kit to work with the 9-3’s already efficient shape. The car sits on 19-inch alloy wheels, available in matte black or satin silver, and is lowered on a sport suspension. Braking is handled by 345mm discs, an upgrade over the standard setup.

Market context

The Hirsch Edition 9-3 Cabrio was aimed at buyers seeking a more exclusive Saab, with performance and visual upgrades to rival other factory-backed tuning efforts of the period. The package was available through authorised Saab dealers in markets where Hirsch products were officially offered. For more on performance editions from the era, see the Carlsson Smart Edition C25.
