HUMMER Showcases Off-Road Concepts and Racing Heritage at 2009 SEMA
HUMMER's 2009 SEMA stand featured two custom concepts, the H3 Moab and H3T Sportsman, alongside race-proven trucks from Rod Hall Racing and Robby Gordon Off-Road.
HUMMER arrived at the 2009 SEMA Show in Las Vegas with a clear message: the brand’s core remains rugged off-road vehicles and outdoor adventure. The stand centred on two new concepts, the H3 Moab and H3T Sportsman, designed to highlight both HUMMER’s factory capability and the possibilities open to enthusiasts who want to personalise their trucks for the trail.
H3 Moab: Trail-Inspired Off-Road Concept
Named after the famous off-road trails around Moab, Utah, the H3 Moab concept started with a 300hp H3 Alpha and built on its factory off-road kit. The Moab received a Rancho four-inch front suspension lift and a custom rear spring-over conversion, both supported by Rancho shocks. Its 35-inch BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain KM2 tyres and 17-inch beadlock wheels gave it a purposeful stance and extra clearance. Additional underbody shielding, a brushguard, and rocker protection were fitted to handle rough terrain.

Inside, the H3 Moab featured all-weather flooring and mats, plus front and rear cameras to help navigate obstacles. The navigation screen could display images from either end of the truck. HUMMER also included a Warn air compressor in the boot for inflating tyres after a day on the rocks.
To reinforce HUMMER’s connection to responsible recreation, the company pledged donations to Tread Lightly for every photo of a HUMMER in Moab posted to its Facebook page, with funds directed to Moab-area projects.
H3T Sportsman: Outdoorsman’s Pickup
The H3T Sportsman concept was HUMMER’s vision of the ideal midsize pickup for hunting, fishing, and field work. Starting with the H3T Alpha, engineers added nearly 70hp to the 5.3-litre V8 using aftermarket LS2 cylinder heads, a higher-lift camshaft, and a bespoke 3.5-inch exhaust. The suspension borrowed from HUMMER’s stock-class racing experience, with Light Racing JounceShocks and Rod Hall Racing piggyback reservoir shocks, plus 35-inch BF Goodrich All-Terrain tyres on 20-inch wheels.

The H3T Sportsman’s five-foot bed was fitted with lockable storage boxes to secure outdoor gear. Lighting upgrades included grille-mounted and roof-rail Delta off-road lamps, while the Wildrye Matte paint and body-colour grille gave the concept a distinctive look.
Racing Pedigree on Display
Alongside the concepts, HUMMER displayed Rod Hall Racing’s Baja 1000-winning H3 Alpha and Robby Gordon’s Dakar HUMMER. Both trucks have proven the brand’s off-road credentials in some of the world’s toughest events, reinforcing HUMMER’s message at SEMA.
