Leaked images of the 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and 2014 Lexus GX have surfaced online, giving the first clear look at the facelifted SUVs ahead of their anticipated unveiling at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. The photos, which appeared on sites including Toyota-lc.ru and Indian Autos Blog, show both models with updated exterior styling and suggest final production designs.

Exterior changes for Land Cruiser Prado

The 2014 Land Cruiser Prado in the leaked images wears a new front bumper, a larger grille and redesigned headlights featuring LED elements. At the rear, the SUV gains new taillights and a revised tailgate. The changes bring the Prado’s look closer to Toyota’s latest design language, with sharper lines and a more prominent front end. These updates are expected to help the Prado remain competitive in the large SUV segment, particularly in markets where it faces rivals such as the Mitsubishi Pajero and Nissan Patrol.

Lexus GX adopts spindle grille

The Lexus GX, closely related to the Prado, also receives a substantial visual update. The leaked images reveal a new front fascia dominated by Lexus’s signature spindle grille, flanked by revised headlights. The rear bumper has been reshaped, further distinguishing the GX from its Toyota sibling. These changes align the GX with the broader Lexus SUV range, echoing cues from the RX and LX models.

Powertrains and interior updates

For the Land Cruiser Prado, the leaked information indicates the continued use of a 4.6-litre V8 engine, rated at 301hp and 445Nm of torque. The Lexus GX is also expected to offer a range of petrol and diesel engines, although specific outputs and configurations have not been detailed in the leaks. While the images do not show the interiors, reports suggest that both models will receive upgraded cabins, though details remain unconfirmed until the official launch.

Position in the SUV market

The Land Cruiser Prado and Lexus GX are positioned as robust, body-on-frame SUVs with reputations for durability in demanding conditions. The Prado is a mainstay in Toyota’s global SUV line-up, while the GX serves as its more luxurious counterpart under the Lexus badge. Both models are important for Toyota in markets where off-road capability and reliability are key selling points, such as Australia, the Middle East and parts of Europe.

  • Land Cruiser Prado: New front bumper and grille, LED headlights, revised taillights and tailgate.
  • Lexus GX: Spindle grille, new headlights, reshaped rear bumper.

With the Frankfurt Motor Show approaching, Toyota is expected to confirm full details and specifications for both models. Until then, the leaked images provide the clearest indication yet of the direction for these two established SUVs.
