McLaren to Add 675LT Spider in 2016 Line-Up
McLaren is preparing to launch a 675LT Spider in 2016, expanding its Super Series range with an open-top version of the track-focused 675LT coupe.
McLaren is set to introduce a 675LT Spider in 2016, following the coupe's debut earlier in the year. The open-top variant will join the Super Series range as a limited-production, track-focused roadster, using the same 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 as the hardtop.
Dealers have begun sounding out customer interest in the 675LT Spider, with reports suggesting McLaren has responded to demand for a convertible version of its most extreme road car yet. The Spider will retain the coupe’s carbon fibre monocoque chassis, ensuring structural rigidity despite the lack of a fixed roof. Removing the roof is expected to add only a few kilograms, so performance and handling should remain close to the coupe’s benchmark.
Performance and specification
The 3.8-litre V8 produces 675hp and 700Nm, sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The coupe claims 0-100km/h in 2.9 seconds and a 330km/h top speed. The Spider’s extra weight may see its sprint time increase by a tenth or two, but McLaren is expected to keep the focus on lightweight engineering and driver engagement. The open-top model will compete with rivals such as the Ferrari 488 Spider and Lamborghini Huracán Spyder.
