Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo Unveiled for Gran Turismo 6
Nissan has revealed the Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo, a striking virtual supercar developed for Gran Turismo 6, with design input from both its European and Japanese teams.
Nissan has officially unveiled the Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo, a dramatic virtual supercar created for the Gran Turismo 6 video game. The car will be available to players from July 2014, following its reveal by Nissan and Polyphony Digital.
The Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo stands out with its aggressive, futuristic styling. The exterior features Nissan’s V-motion front end, slender LED headlights, a carbon fibre front splitter and rear wing, ventilated bonnet, deep rear diffuser and signature circular tail lights. The design team at Nissan Design Europe in London led the project, with engineering input from Japan’s Nissan Technical Centre. This cross-continental effort was aimed at producing a car that would not only look striking in the virtual world but also reflect Nissan’s design ambitions.
Gran Turismo partnership and design process
The car was developed as part of the Vision Gran Turismo programme, which invited manufacturers to create concept vehicles for the Gran Turismo series’ 15th anniversary. Nissan’s designers were given free rein to imagine a supercar for the future, unrestricted by production constraints. The result is a low, wide two-door coupe with exaggerated aerodynamic elements and a stance reminiscent of the GT-R, though Nissan has not confirmed any direct connection to future production models.
Nissan has not released technical specifications for the Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo, as the car exists purely in the digital realm. In-game, players can expect performance and handling in line with the car’s extreme looks, but the figures are set by Polyphony Digital rather than Nissan’s engineers. The company has also not stated whether the design hints at any forthcoming production model, such as a future GT-R, though speculation has followed the concept’s unveiling.
A showcase for Nissan’s design direction
The Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo joins a growing list of virtual concepts from major manufacturers created for the Gran Turismo series. For Nissan, the project offered its young designers a chance to explore extreme design themes and experiment with advanced aerodynamics and materials. The car’s presence in Gran Turismo 6 ensures it will reach a global audience of enthusiasts and gamers, reinforcing Nissan’s image as a brand willing to push boundaries in both the real and virtual worlds.
Other manufacturers have also contributed concepts to the Vision Gran Turismo project, including McLaren and MINI, reflecting the increasing crossover between digital and physical automotive design.
