Mercedes-Benz has released a fresh set of official images for the AMG GT, highlighting the coupe’s design and technical details as it enters the market as the SLS AMG’s successor.
Mercedes-Benz has released a new set of official photographs for the AMG GT, offering a closer look at the coupe that replaces the SLS AMG in the brand’s sports car line-up. The gallery highlights the GT’s proportions, interior and technical features as the model reaches showrooms in early 2015.
AMG GT design and technical focus
The AMG GT is built on a shortened version of the aluminium chassis from the outgoing SLS AMG. The new coupe adopts a front-mid engine layout and rear-wheel drive, with a focus on reducing weight and improving agility. The styling retains the long bonnet and short rear deck typical of AMG’s flagship models, but the GT is positioned as a more accessible alternative to the SLS.
Inside, the AMG GT features a driver-focused cockpit with prominent centre console controls and AMG-specific trim. The new gallery shows a range of exterior colours and interior finishes, underlining the model’s customisation options.
Engine options and performance
Mercedes-AMG offers the GT with a newly developed 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, available in two power outputs. The standard AMG GT produces 462hp (339kW) and 600Nm of torque, while the AMG GT S delivers 510hp (375kW) and 650Nm. Both versions use a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission driving the rear wheels.
Compared to the SLS AMG’s naturally aspirated 6.2-litre V8, the new engine sacrifices some displacement and peak output but brings improved efficiency and lower emissions. The AMG GT’s performance puts it in direct competition with the Porsche 911 and Jaguar F-Type.
Market positioning and pricing
The AMG GT enters the German market from €115,430. This pricing strategy places it below the SLS AMG and targets established rivals in the premium sports coupe segment. The new model is intended to broaden AMG’s customer base while maintaining the brand’s performance credentials.
