Mercedes-Benz Folding Bike Arrives in UK Retailers at £1,099
The Mercedes-Benz Folding Bike, designed for urban commuters, features an eight-speed sequential transmission, full suspension and a patented folding mechanism for easy storage.
Mercedes-Benz UK has introduced its Folding Bike to all UK retailers, offering a compact and practical option for city travel at £1,099. The model is available in “Silver Arrows” silver or icy white, and aims to appeal to commuters looking for a sustainable alternative to driving, as well as brand enthusiasts who want the three-pointed star on two wheels.
Features and Specifications
The Mercedes-Benz Folding Bike is built around an aluminium frame with 40 mm of adjustable suspension travel at both the front and rear. The bike is equipped with an eight-speed Shimano sequential-shift derailleur, allowing clutchless gear changes to suit urban conditions. Stopping power comes from disc brakes on both wheels, and the bike rides on Continental tyres with reflective side walls for added visibility.
The patented folding mechanism is designed for ease of use. It offers two positions: a shuttle position, where the seat post folds onto the frame so the bike can be pushed and steered, and a fully folded position for compact storage. When folded, the bike measures just 80 by 80 by 35 centimetres, making it suitable for storage in car boots, on trains or in small flats. Folding pedals further reduce the width and help protect the rider’s shins during transport.
Equipment and Practicality
Standard equipment includes an adjustable gel saddle, ergonomic hand grips, a luggage rack, a sprung-flick bell, side stand and a protective cover bag. Security is addressed with a push-bolt lock that secures the front disc and wheel. Mercedes-Benz positions the bike as an answer to congestion charges and limited city parking, citing London’s £8 daily charge as an example where the bike could pay for itself in less than six months for regular users.
Part of a Wider Bike Collection
The Folding Bike joins the 2009 Mercedes-Benz Bike Collection, which also includes the Mountainbike All Mountain Limited, Limited Racing Bike, Fitnessbike and Trekkingbike, alongside a range of cycling clothing. The Folding Bike stands out for its focus on portability and urban use, contrasting with the more specialised models in the line-up.
