Mostro Di-Potenza SF22: America’s 2,000hp Supercar Revealed
US firm 215 Racing will build just 50 examples of the Mostro Di-Potenza SF22, a 2,000hp, 425km/h hypercar based on the Lamborghini Indomable concept.
A new American hypercar is on the way, and it is not short on ambition. 215 Racing, a US-based company, has announced plans to produce the Mostro Di-Potenza SF22, a 2,000hp supercar based on the Lamborghini Indomable concept. Only 50 examples are planned, with production set to begin in 2012 and deliveries following later that year.
From concept to production: the Indomable reborn
The SF22 story starts with the Indomable, a concept car designed by Daniel Chinchilla Ochoa and Alberto Fernandez Albilares for a Lamborghini-sponsored programme. Rather than remaining a digital fantasy, the design was acquired by 215 Racing, which established the Mostro Di-Potenza sub-brand to bring the car to the road. The production model’s name, SF22, references the F-22 Raptor fighter jet, which inspired the car’s aggressive lines.
Although the design’s origins are Italian, the SF22 will be built in Philadelphia. Mostro Di-Potenza says that 70% of its suppliers are American. The car’s carbon fibre and Kevlar bodywork helps keep weight to a claimed 1,360kg, despite the enormous engine and drivetrain.
2,000hp V8 and Veyron-baiting performance
At the heart of the SF22 is a 9.4-litre twin-turbocharged GM V8, mounted mid-ship and sending its 2,000hp to the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox. The company claims a torque figure of 2,700Nm (2,000lb-ft), and says the car will accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 2.5 seconds. Top speed is projected at 425km/h, aimed squarely at the Bugatti Veyron’s long-standing record. The quarter mile is claimed in 9.5 seconds.
Stopping power comes from 14-inch discs with six-piston callipers, while the rear lights double as an active airfoil to reduce drag. Tyres are 235/35R20 at the front and 305/30R20 at the rear, reflecting the car’s extreme performance brief.
Production plans and price
Production will be strictly limited to 50 units, built at a rate of two cars per month. The projected price is $950,000 (about €700,000 at the time), with a $1,000 deposit required to secure an order. The company expects to start delivering cars from mid-2012. The SF22’s price undercuts the Bugatti Veyron, which cost roughly twice as much at launch.
For a US-built hypercar to reach production, especially with these numbers, would mark a rare achievement. The company’s stated goal is not only to challenge the Veyron’s top speed, but to create a supercar with a uniquely American identity, both in engineering and supply chain.
