NAVTEQ and Trimble extend global map data partnership
Trimble’s new multi-year agreement with NAVTEQ brings expanded digital mapping, traffic and transport data to its fleet and resource management platforms worldwide.
Trimble has signed a multi-year expansion of its agreement with NAVTEQ, giving the US-based positioning solutions provider access to NAVTEQ’s full digital map database in 77 countries for its mobile resource management (MRM) platforms. The deal, announced in July 2009, brings broader global coverage and new content options to Trimble’s GeoManager, TrimWeb and TrimView solutions, which are widely used in fleet management, construction, agriculture and field services.
Under the revised agreement, Trimble not only gains access to NAVTEQ’s comprehensive street-level mapping, but also to NAVTEQ’s Entry Maps, which offer basic geographic detail for countries not yet fully covered by the core database. This move is designed to support Trimble’s customers operating internationally, particularly those managing vehicle fleets or assets across multiple continents.
Advanced transport and traffic content
The partnership also extends to specialist datasets. Trimble will continue to license NAVTEQ Transport, a product tailored for the needs of the logistics and trucking industries. NAVTEQ Transport includes attributes such as truck-restricted roads, bridge heights and hazardous material restrictions, supporting advanced routing and dispatch optimisation in 20 countries. For fleet operators, this means more accurate and compliant navigation for heavy goods vehicles, reducing the risk of route planning errors and regulatory breaches.
NAVTEQ Traffic content is also included, offering real-time and historical traffic information for navigation and fleet management. This service covers more than 120 metropolitan areas in North America, with data on roadworks, congestion, incident reports and average speeds. By integrating this information, Trimble’s MRM platforms can offer dynamic routing and re-routing, helping operators respond to changing road conditions and minimise delays.
What it means for fleet and resource management
For Trimble’s customers, the expanded NAVTEQ partnership means improved global consistency and richer data for vehicle tracking, route planning and asset management. International operators can now manage fleets using the same mapping and traffic datasets across regions, reducing integration complexity and supporting cross-border operations. The addition of Entry Maps ensures even basic coverage in emerging markets, important for construction and logistics firms with a global footprint.
- Full access to NAVTEQ’s map database in 77 countries
- Entry Maps for basic coverage in additional territories
- NAVTEQ Transport for truck-specific routing and compliance
- Real-time NAVTEQ Traffic data for dynamic fleet management
The agreement also positions Trimble to respond to growing customer expectations for up-to-date mapping, compliance with local transport regulations and real-time operational visibility. By leveraging NAVTEQ’s data, Trimble aims to deliver more efficient and information-rich solutions for its customers in fleet and resource management sectors.
