Next-Gen Skoda Fabia Set for 2014 Paris Motor Show Debut

Skoda will introduce the next generation of its Fabia supermini at the 2014 Paris Motor Show in October. The Czech manufacturer has confirmed the all-new model will receive a comprehensive redesign and a revised engine range, but it will not feature an RS hot hatch or an estate version.
Unlike some recent models in the Volkswagen Group, the new Fabia will not move onto the MQB platform. Instead, it will retain the existing architecture, a decision that may disappoint buyers expecting the latest underpinnings shared with the Volkswagen Polo and SEAT Ibiza. Skoda is instead focusing on a substantial visual update, drawing styling cues from the current Octavia, with sharper lines and a more assertive front end expected.
Design and Platform Choices
The new Fabia’s design follows Skoda’s recent direction, with a more angular look and proportions inspired by the larger Octavia. While the car remains on the previous platform, the exterior is set to appear lower and wider, aiming to give the supermini a sportier stance in the crowded B-segment. The decision to skip the MQB platform is likely a cost measure, but it keeps the Fabia closely tied to its predecessor in terms of mechanical layout.
There will be no RS hot hatch version in this generation, and Skoda is also discontinuing the estate model. The company will instead put more emphasis on the Monte Carlo trim, which brings sport-inspired styling without the performance upgrades of a true hot hatch.
Engines and Technical Updates
The next Fabia will feature a refreshed engine line-up. Skoda is expected to offer new three- and four-cylinder petrol units, including the 1.2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder TSI already seen in other Volkswagen Group models. Details on diesel options have not been confirmed, but the focus remains on improved efficiency and lower emissions. The absence of an RS model means performance variants are off the table for now.
