Maserati will introduce the GranTurismo MC Stradale at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, positioning it as the fastest, lightest and most powerful model in its range. The MC Stradale draws direct inspiration from Maserati’s Trofeo GranTurismo MC and GT4 racing cars, translating motorsport technology and philosophy into a two-seat road car. Sales are set to begin in the first quarter of 2011.

The MC Stradale’s 4.7-litre V8, shared with the GranTurismo S, has been uprated from 433bhp to 444bhp (336kW). Maserati claims the car will break the 300km/h barrier, making it the first production Maserati in the current line-up to do so. Despite the increase in power, fuel consumption remains unchanged compared with the GranTurismo S, according to Maserati’s figures.

Sharper handling and reduced weight

The MC Stradale’s chassis and suspension have been tuned for sharper responses, with Maserati aiming to deliver agility and track capability while maintaining the GranTurismo S’s ride quality. The car is lighter than the standard GranTurismo S, though Maserati has not released a precise kerb weight. Aerodynamic changes increase downforce without adding drag, supporting high-speed stability.

Motorsport influence and interior changes

Inspired by Maserati’s GT4 and Trofeo race cars, the MC Stradale adopts a two-seat configuration, marking a departure from the four-seat layout of the standard GranTurismo. This move underlines its focus on track-inspired performance and weight reduction. Details on interior materials and equipment have not been fully disclosed, but the emphasis is on minimising weight and maximising driver engagement.

Pricing and market position

The MC Stradale is expected to be priced above £100,000, representing a premium of around 20 per cent over the GranTurismo S. This places it firmly in the territory of track-focused grand tourers, with Maserati targeting buyers seeking a purer, more aggressive driving experience than the standard model offers.

Context in Maserati’s range

The GranTurismo MC Stradale sits at the top of Maserati’s road car line-up for 2011, offering more power and a sharper dynamic edge than the GranTurismo S. Its debut at Paris follows a series of motorsport-influenced concepts and special editions, including the MC Corse and the S Limited Edition, but the MC Stradale is the first to combine these elements in a full production model.

  • 4.7-litre V8 uprated to 444bhp (336kW)
