DS 3 and DS 3 Cabrio refreshed for 2016 with new tech and customisation
DS Automobiles has unveiled the updated 2016 DS 3 and DS 3 Cabrio, featuring new front-end styling, advanced infotainment, and a wide range of personalisation options.
DS Automobiles has launched the refreshed DS 3 and DS 3 Cabrio for 2016, introducing new styling, technology upgrades, and an expanded personalisation programme. The facelifted models are the first since DS became a standalone marque, and they mark a move to further differentiate the DS 3 from its Citroën roots.
Styling and customisation
The 2016 DS 3 and DS 3 Cabrio receive a revised front bumper and the new “DS Wings” grille, finished with chrome detailing. LED headlights are now standard, and buyers can choose from new wheel designs and an expanded palette of colours. DS claims up to 78 possible body and roof colour combinations, with ten roof decals, four soft-top choices for the Cabrio, and ten mirror cap designs. This level of customisation is aimed at younger buyers who want to personalise their cars extensively.
Inside, a new seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system has been fitted, supporting Apple CarPlay. The centre stack has been redesigned, reducing the number of physical buttons by 20 compared to the outgoing model. New trim and upholstery choices are available, reflecting the DS brand’s focus on style and perceived quality.
Engines and DS 3 Performance
The updated DS 3 range offers eight engine options: three PureTech three-cylinder petrols, two THP four-cylinder petrols, and three BlueHDi diesels. Buyers can choose from manual, semi-automatic, or automatic transmissions, depending on the engine. The highlight is the DS 3 Performance, which uses a 1.6-litre THP engine producing 208hp and 221lb ft of torque. This version features a 15mm lower ride height, wider tracks, uprated brakes, and an optional limited-slip differential for improved handling.
Technology and safety updates
New technology features include hill assist, a rear-view camera, and front and rear parking sensors. The Active City Brake system uses laser sensors to detect obstacles and can automatically apply the brakes if the driver does not react in time. These additions bring the DS 3’s equipment in line with newer rivals in the supermini and small convertible segments.
The 2016 DS 3 and DS 3 Cabrio are now on sale, with the full range of customisation and engine options available from launch. The changes are designed to maintain the DS 3’s appeal in a market where style and technology are increasingly important to buyers.
