According to forum reports, the car, one of the first Soul Red examples delivered in the US, was rear-ended by a Ford F-150 and pushed into the vehicle ahead, leaving the roadster with substantial damage.
The incident is believed to be the first documented crash involving the new ND-generation MX-5, which had only recently begun reaching US customers. The owner and his wife sustained minor injuries, but the car itself suffered significant front and rear damage. Insurance is expected to cover the repairs, but the car’s near-new condition at the time of the crash adds to the frustration for the buyer.

The 2016 Mazda MX-5 ND arrived in the US market with a 2.0-litre SKYACTIV-G engine producing 155 hp and 200 Nm of torque. Buyers could choose between a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.
