Chevrolet has released the first teaser video for the 2014 Corvette, offering fleeting glimpses of the C7's design and confirming its Detroit debut in January 2013.
Chevrolet has released its first official teaser video for the 2014 Corvette, offering a brief and carefully managed look at the seventh-generation sports car ahead of its public debut at the Detroit auto show on 13 January 2013. The video, published in late October 2012, is the first in a planned series of five teasers leading up to the reveal.
The 58-second video, titled "Conception," reveals little of the final car but provides several fleeting shots of the C7 in development. Early scenes show Chevrolet designers shaping a clay model, followed by test drivers preparing for track work. The car itself remains mostly hidden, either under a cover, in camouflage, or out of focus. Even so, several details are visible: a new set of five-spoke alloy wheels, slotted brake rotors, quad exhaust tips, a sharply defined rear quarter panel, and glimpses of the passenger-side door panel and side mirror.
The teaser also features the sound of the new 6.2-litre LT1 V8 engine firing up, underscoring Chevrolet's intent to keep the Corvette's performance credentials at the centre of the C7's appeal. In the video, exterior design manager Kirk Bennion comments on the design philosophy, stating that the car's form is driven by performance needs. Chief engineer Tadge Juechter has previously explained that the front grille and radiator flow paths are engineered to reduce lift and improve high-speed stability, while functional vents channel air to the brakes and heat exchangers for the transmission and differential.
What the teaser reveals about the new C7
While the video avoids showing the full exterior, it confirms several design directions for the C7. The car will retain the long bonnet, wide rear haunches and sloping rear window that have become Corvette signatures. The rear is expected to feature a decklid spoiler and a set of four in-line exhaust outlets. The wheels shown are black with a split five-spoke design, and the brakes are clearly performance-oriented with slotted rotors. Interior shots are limited, but a glimpse of the passenger-side door panel suggests an updated cabin layout.

Chevrolet's statements around the teaser emphasise that every vent, inlet and crease on the new Corvette has been tested in the wind tunnel or via computer simulation. The front grille and radiator are designed to reduce aerodynamic lift, improving stability at speed. Additional vents direct airflow to the brakes and to heat exchangers for the transmission and differential, a nod to the car's track ambitions and the need for reliable cooling under high loads.
