Three Ferrari LaFerrari Hypercars Lap Monza in Rare Track Gathering
A trio of Ferrari LaFerrari hypercars were filmed lapping Italy’s Monza circuit, giving fans a rare look at the hybrid V12 flagship in action together on track.
Three examples of the Ferrari LaFerrari were filmed running together at Monza, providing a rare opportunity to see the Italian marque’s hybrid hypercar unleashed in numbers on a Grand Prix circuit. The footage, published in early April 2014, shows the trio accelerating, braking and cornering at speed, with the V12s and electric motors working in concert.
The LaFerrari, introduced in production form at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, represented Ferrari’s first series-production hybrid. Its 6.3-litre naturally aspirated V12 produces 789hp and 700Nm, paired with a 161hp electric motor using technology derived from Formula One’s KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System). Combined, the powertrain delivers a total of 950hp and 900Nm, channelling drive to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
Performance and limited production
Ferrari claimed a 0-100km/h time of under 3 seconds and a top speed exceeding 350km/h for the LaFerrari. The car’s hybrid system is designed to supplement the V12 rather than provide electric-only running, with the electric motor delivering additional torque under acceleration and harvesting energy under braking. Only 499 units were scheduled for production, each with a price tag of around £1 million at launch.
Monza appearance draws attention
The Monza session drew attention not only for the spectacle of three LaFerraris on track, but also for the sound and performance that set Ferrari’s hybrid apart from its rivals. At the time, the LaFerrari was often compared with the McLaren P1 and Porsche 918 Spyder, both of which also used hybrid technology to achieve new levels of performance. While videos of the McLaren and Porsche were more common, footage of multiple LaFerraris together was rare due to the car’s limited numbers and the exclusivity of its owners.
