ABT Sportsline Unveils Upgraded Volkswagen Beetle with Enhanced Power and Styling
ABT Sportsline has released a new tuning package for the Volkswagen Beetle, offering aerodynamic upgrades, lowered suspension and increased engine output across petrol and diesel variants.
ABT Sportsline has revealed its latest aftermarket package for the Volkswagen Beetle, bringing a mix of performance enhancements and visual updates to the popular hatch. The kit, announced in late August 2013, targets both petrol and diesel variants of the Beetle, with notable increases in power and a sharper stance.
Performance upgrades for petrol and diesel models
The most substantial mechanical changes affect the Beetle’s engine range. The 2.0 TSI petrol engine, previously rated at 200 hp and 280 Nm, is now tuned to deliver 240 hp and 340 Nm of torque. The smaller 1.4 TSI also sees gains, rising from 105 hp and 175 Nm to 140 hp and 220 Nm. Diesel drivers are not left out: the 2.0 TDI is increased to 170 hp and 370 Nm, while the 1.6 TDI is lifted to 125 hp and 285 Nm.
These upgrades put the ABT Beetle in closer company with other hot hatchbacks, though it remains front-wheel drive. Performance figures for acceleration or top speed were not released at launch, but the increased torque and power are expected to deliver a more responsive drive.
Styling and chassis changes
ABT’s package is not limited to the engine bay. The aerodynamic kit includes headlight and taillight covers, a two-pipe exhaust system and a choice of three exterior paint finishes. Wheel sizes range from 18 to 20 inches, each fitted with high performance tyres. Suspension springs lower the car by 30 mm, giving the Beetle a lower, more aggressive stance and likely improving handling.
ABT has a history of tuning Volkswagen models, and this Beetle follows previous projects such as its work on the Audi SQ5 TDI and various Golf models. The focus here is on balancing everyday usability with a sportier appearance and sharper performance.
Availability and pricing
At the time of the announcement, ABT had not confirmed pricing for the Beetle upgrade package. The kit is available for both petrol and diesel models, with buyers able to select from the full range of mechanical and visual enhancements.
