Volkswagen Passat BlueMotion launches in the UK with 95g/km CO2
Volkswagen has introduced the Passat BlueMotion to the UK market, offering saloon and estate versions with a 1.6-litre diesel engine and sub-100g/km emissions.
Volkswagen has launched the Passat BlueMotion in the UK, adding a new fuel-efficient option to its midsize line-up. The BlueMotion is available as both a saloon and an estate, with first deliveries scheduled for August 2015.
Engine, performance and emissions
Both body styles use Volkswagen’s 1.6-litre turbocharged diesel engine, delivering 120PS and 250Nm of torque from 1,750rpm. Official figures put the 0-62mph time at 10.8 seconds for the saloon and 11 seconds for the estate. Top speed is 130mph. The Passat BlueMotion’s most notable figure is its 95g/km CO2 rating for the saloon, which brings it below the threshold for UK road tax at launch. Combined fuel consumption is officially 76.3mpg for the saloon, with the estate slightly behind due to its extra weight.
BlueMotion features and specification
The BlueMotion badge signals more than just engine tweaks. Both versions feature unique front and rear bumpers, BlueMotion badging, a chrome front grille and a 15mm lower ride height thanks to sports suspension. Standard equipment includes 17-inch Soho alloy wheels with low-rolling-resistance tyres, start/stop, battery regeneration, post-collision braking, misfuel prevention and a driver alert system. Infotainment is handled by Volkswagen’s Composition Media system with a 6.5-inch display.
Pricing and market position
The entry-level Passat BlueMotion saloon is priced at £23,200, with the estate starting at £24,750. These figures position the BlueMotion above the regular S trim, reflecting its additional equipment and efficiency upgrades. The BlueMotion is aimed at buyers seeking low running costs without sacrificing space or standard kit.
