A camouflaged Volvo S60 Polestar has been caught on test in Germany, suggesting the Swedish brand is preparing a high-performance rival to the BMW M3 and Mercedes C63 AMG.
A heavily disguised Volvo S60 Polestar has been photographed undergoing testing on German roads, giving the clearest indication yet that Volvo is developing a high-performance version of its S60 saloon to take on established rivals from BMW, Mercedes and Audi.
The prototype, captured by a Dutch publication, wore substantial camouflage but revealed larger wheels, aggressive bumpers and a lowered stance compared to the standard S60. These visual changes point to a serious performance upgrade over the regular model, with Polestar’s involvement suggesting a focus on both power and handling.
Potential engine and drivetrain details
While Volvo has yet to confirm technical details, speculation around the S60 Polestar’s powertrain centres on a highly tuned version of the company’s six- or eight-cylinder engines. The V8 used in the XC90 and S80 has previously produced up to 315hp in naturally aspirated form, but with Polestar’s tuning and possible forced induction, output could approach 400hp. Reports also suggest the car will use a Haldex all-wheel-drive system, paired with a sequential transmission to handle the increased power.
