Chevrolet set the price of its 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition at $90,960 in the United States, confirming production will be capped at 500 cars. The announcement marked the arrival of a special edition model built to mark 50 years since Corvette’s first entry at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1960.

Engineering and Performance

The Z06 Carbon Limited Edition combines the 7.0-litre LS7 V8 from the standard Z06 with chassis and braking technology from the ZR1, including Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes and Magnetic Selective Ride Control. The car features 19-inch front and 20-inch rear black wheels, shod with Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres, and is fitted with a suite of carbon-fibre accessories. These include a carbon-fibre bonnet, splitter, side skirts and roof panel, reducing weight and lowering the centre of gravity compared to the base Z06.

The Magnetic Selective Ride Control system, borrowed from the ZR1, allows for rapid adjustments to damping, helping the car balance track capability with road comfort. The carbon-ceramic brakes, also from the ZR1, offer improved stopping power and fade resistance, particularly useful for high-performance driving or track use. These technical enhancements distinguish the Carbon Limited Edition from the standard Z06, making it a more focused option for enthusiasts seeking a sharper driving experience.

Special Features and Exclusivity

Chevrolet restricted buyers to two colour choices: Inferno Orange and the newly introduced Supersonic Blue. Each car carries a unique build number, with race-style numbering on the flanks available as an option. The interior features model-specific trim and badging to distinguish the Carbon Limited from other Z06 variants. Only 500 units of the Z06 Carbon Limited Edition were produced for the 2011 model year.

The limited production run and distinctive cosmetic details, such as the carbon-fibre body panels and unique interior elements, make the Carbon Limited Edition especially appealing to collectors and Corvette enthusiasts. The optional race-style numbering on the flanks further enhances its motorsport-inspired character. These features not only celebrate the car’s racing heritage but also ensure each example is instantly recognisable.

Options for Other Buyers

For customers unable to secure one of the 500 examples, Chevrolet offered most of the Carbon Limited’s technical features through the Z07 and carbon-fibre option packages on the standard Z06. These packages allowed buyers to add the ZR1’s suspension, brakes and carbon-fibre bodywork, though without the full exclusivity or commemorative details of the Carbon Limited Edition.

The Z07 package, available for the regular Z06, included the Magnetic Selective Ride Control suspension and Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, closely matching the Carbon Limited’s mechanical specification. The carbon-fibre package added lightweight exterior panels, but these cars did not receive the special badging or limited production status. This approach allowed more buyers to experience the enhanced driving dynamics, even if they could not obtain the full Carbon Limited Edition experience.

Position in the Corvette Range

The Z06 Carbon Limited Edition sat between the standard Z06 and the flagship ZR1, targeting enthusiasts seeking track-focused performance with a nod to Corvette’s endurance racing heritage. Its pricing placed it above the regular Z06, reflecting the added equipment and exclusivity, but below the ZR1. The model arrived at US dealerships in mid-2010, with deliveries expected during the summer.

Legacy and Collectibility

The Z06 Carbon Limited Edition served as a showcase for Chevrolet’s ability to blend road car performance with racing technology, while commemorating a key milestone in Corvette’s motorsport history. Its limited production and specification made it one of the most sought-after C6-generation special editions. Collectors value the model for its rarity, unique features, and the direct connection to Corvette’s racing achievements at Le Mans. Today, well-preserved examples of the 2011 Z06 Carbon Limited Edition are considered highly desirable among enthusiasts and are often found in private collections or at specialist auctions.

The car’s blend of advanced technology, motorsport-inspired design, and exclusivity helped reinforce the Corvette’s reputation as a serious contender in the world of high-performance sports cars. For Chevrolet, the Z06 Carbon Limited Edition stands as a reminder of the brand’s long-standing commitment to racing and innovation.
