Citroën C5 facelift brings revised engines and new tech for 2011
Citroën's C5 saloon and Tourer receive updated styling, Euro 5 engines and the eTouch emergency system, with UK availability from November 2010.
Citroën has updated its C5 range for 2011, rolling out a facelift that covers both the saloon and Tourer estate. The revised models, available from November 2010, feature refreshed styling, new technology and a fully Euro 5-compliant engine line-up.
Styling tweaks include new LED daytime running lights at the front and darker tinted rear light clusters, giving the C5 a more contemporary look. These changes are subtle but bring the car in line with updates seen on rivals such as the Mercedes C-Class facelift for 2011 (/mercedes-c-class-new-c-class).
Euro 5 engines and lower emissions
The 2011 C5 range now features a full suite of Euro 5 engines. The 1.6-litre HDi diesel, producing 110hp, replaces its Euro 4 predecessor, while the 1.6-litre THP petrol (155hp) and 3.0-litre HDi V6 diesel (240hp) have been re-homologated to deliver better fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions. According to Citroën, the 1.6 THP's combined fuel economy improves from 39.8mpg to 42.2mpg, with CO2 dropping by 14g/km. The V6 diesel sees a smaller gain, with fuel economy rising from 38.2mpg to 39.2mpg and CO2 emissions down by 6g/km.
These improvements bring the C5's tax position closer to key fleet rivals, with the first year VED for the 1.6 THP now falling from band H to band G. For company car drivers, this means a lower benefit-in-kind tax rate, supporting Citroën's push for greater fleet appeal.
New eTouch Emergency & Assistance System
Exclusive models now come with Citroën's eTouch Emergency & Assistance System as standard. This system uses a built-in SIM card to provide automatic or manual emergency calls and manual assistance calls if the car is immobilised. Owners can also access the 'MyCITROËN' online portal to monitor maintenance and receive driving advice. The service is available 24 hours a day at no extra cost to the customer.
Availability and specification
The facelifted C5 is available in both saloon and Tourer estate formats, with the new features and engines applied across the range. The eTouch system is standard on Exclusive trim, while the updated engines and styling are offered on all versions. Citroën has not announced any major changes to the trim structure or options list beyond these updates.
With the 2011 facelift, Citroën aims to keep the C5 competitive in the fleet and private markets by focusing on emissions, technology and subtle design changes. The updated range enters UK showrooms from November 2010.
