Porsche Cayenne Hits 16,000 Orders in Just One Month
The second-generation Porsche Cayenne drew 16,000 global orders within its first month on sale, with strong demand for the new S Hybrid and a notable UK showing.
Porsche secured more than 16,000 orders for the second-generation Cayenne in its first month on sale in 2010, underlining global demand for the luxury SUV despite economic uncertainty across key markets.
The figure covers all versions of the new Cayenne, including petrol, diesel and the newly introduced S Hybrid. In the UK, Porsche dealers took 1,000 orders for the 2011 model range, reflecting continued appetite for premium SUVs among British buyers.
The Cayenne S Hybrid, Porsche’s first production hybrid SUV, accounted for 15 per cent of total orders. The hybrid model pairs a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 petrol engine with an electric motor, producing a combined 380hp and 580Nm. Porsche positioned the S Hybrid as offering V8 performance with the economy of a six-cylinder, and early sales suggest buyers responded to the blend of performance and efficiency.
Cayenne range, specifications and pricing
For 2011, the Cayenne range included five main variants: the base Cayenne, Cayenne Diesel, Cayenne S, Cayenne S Hybrid and Cayenne Turbo. The base model featured a 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine with 300hp, while the diesel used a 3.0-litre V6 with 240hp. The S and Turbo models both used 4.8-litre V8 petrol engines, with the Turbo topping the range at 500hp and a claimed 0-62mph time of 4.7 seconds.

Context: Cayenne’s role in Porsche’s growth
The new Cayenne’s strong start followed the first generation’s peak year in 2007, when Porsche delivered 45,000 units globally. Securing over a third of that volume in just one month highlighted the model’s importance to Porsche’s bottom line and its ability to attract buyers beyond the traditional sports car segment.
The Cayenne’s commercial success has also prompted interest from tuners and aftermarket specialists, with companies such as RUF and Lumma Design announcing performance and styling packages for the 2011 model.
