Dodge Previews 2015 Charger Ahead of New York Debut
Dodge has released a teaser image of the 2015 Charger, hinting at revised styling and a major update to most body panels ahead of its New York Auto Show reveal.
Dodge has offered an early glimpse of the 2015 Charger, releasing a teaser image that shows the front end of the updated saloon ahead of its official unveiling at the 2014 New York Auto Show. The image reveals a slimmer grille, reworked headlights and a redesigned front bumper, suggesting a move towards a sleeker, more modern appearance.
Dodge says the 2015 Charger will feature changes to almost every exterior panel. While full details are being held back until the car’s formal launch, the updated front end is the first clear sign of a broader redesign. The company describes the new look as more modern and sleeker than the outgoing model, with the teaser image focusing on the sharper, more streamlined front treatment.
The Charger has been a mainstay in Dodge’s line-up since its return as a four-door saloon, with the current generation introduced for the 2011 model year. That car sits on a version of the Chrysler LX platform and is offered with a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 paired with an 8-speed automatic, or a 5.7-litre HEMI V8 in R/T trim. The SRT-8 variant uses a 6.4-litre HEMI V8. Dodge has not yet confirmed whether these engines will carry over for 2015, but the lack of powertrain detail in the teaser suggests the focus is on design changes for now.
What the teaser reveals about the 2015 Charger
The image released by Dodge shows only part of the front fascia, but reveals a narrower grille flanked by restyled headlights. The bumper and bonnet also appear to have been reworked, but the teaser keeps the rest of the car hidden. The company’s statement highlights that almost every body panel has been modified, which would mark this as a substantial update rather than a minor facelift.
Buyers and dealers will have to wait until the New York Auto Show for full technical specifications and to see the complete exterior. The current Charger’s range of V6 and V8 engines has been a selling point, but Dodge’s messaging on the 2015 model is centred on visual and design changes. The extent of the exterior updates could help the Charger compete more directly with rivals such as the Ford Taurus and Chevrolet Impala, which have both seen recent updates to styling and technology.
