Kia Picanto facelift unveiled at 2015 Geneva Motor Show
Kia has revealed a refreshed Picanto city car at Geneva, featuring minor styling tweaks, a revised Euro 6-compliant engine and updated cabin technology.
Kia introduced its facelifted Picanto at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, bringing subtle exterior changes, a revised 1.0-litre engine and new interior technology to its smallest European model. The update is aimed at keeping the city car competitive in a crowded segment as EU emissions standards tighten.
Design and equipment updates
The facelift brings minor cosmetic revisions, including an optional exterior sport pack available for both three- and five-door models. The sport pack delivers a more assertive look, though the basic profile remains familiar. Alloy wheels are available in a 14-inch size, and the front brake discs now measure 252 mm, up from the previous 241 mm, offering improved braking performance.
Inside, the Picanto gains a 7-inch touchscreen for the optional audio video navigation system, a feature not previously available on the model. Buyers can also specify new cabin colour themes and upholstery options, with chrome accents added to the air vents and instrument binnacle. Cruise control with a speed limiter joins the equipment list, aiming to boost appeal for urban drivers.
Engine and emissions
The 1.0-litre MPI petrol engine has been revised to comply with Euro 6 emissions standards. Power output remains at 69 hp, but the update ensures the Picanto stays in line with European regulatory requirements. No changes have been announced for the larger engine options at this stage.
Availability and production
Kia said the refreshed Picanto would be available to order across Europe by the end of March 2015. Production continues in South Korea, with European deliveries expected to follow soon after. Pricing details had not been released at the time of the Geneva announcement.
The Picanto’s update at Geneva follows a series of city car launches and facelifts at recent European shows, as manufacturers respond to changing emissions rules and customer demand for more technology in compact models.
