Audi S4 set for 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show unveiling
Audi is preparing to reveal the 2016 S4, the performance flagship of the new A4 range, at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show, with both saloon and estate versions expected.
Audi will introduce the 2016 S4 at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, marking the first public appearance of the new performance flagship for the latest A4 generation. The S4 will sit above the standard A4 models until the next RS4 arrives, which is not expected until 2016.
Engine and performance details
The new S4 is expected to use a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 engine, producing around 350hp (257kW). This would represent a moderate increase over the outgoing model, and with a weight reduction of approximately 100kg, the new car should deliver improved acceleration and handling. The outgoing S4 managed 0-100km/h in about five seconds, and the lighter chassis should mean a quicker sprint for the 2016 model. As with previous S4s, top speed is likely to be electronically limited to 250km/h (155mph).
Position in the Audi line-up
The S4 will serve as the range-topping A4 variant until the next RS4 arrives. Audi recently launched the new A4 in both saloon and Avant forms, and the S4 will build on that with more power, sportier suspension, and distinctive styling cues. The S4’s main competitors will include other mid-size performance saloons and estates, such as the BMW 340i and Mercedes-AMG C43. What to expect at Frankfurt
Audi has not yet released official images or full technical details for the 2016 S4, but further information is expected at the show. The S4’s debut will join a busy Frankfurt line-up, with other manufacturers also introducing new performance and mainstream models.
