Chevrolet Colorado Gains Midnight Edition and Z71 Trail Boss for 2016
Chevrolet has expanded the 2016 Colorado range with two new special editions, offering buyers more customisation and off-road capability options for the midsize pickup.
Chevrolet has added two new special editions to its Colorado midsize pickup for the 2016 model year. The Midnight Edition and Z71 Trail Boss bring distinctive styling and equipment, expanding the options for buyers looking for either a street-focused or off-road-ready truck. Both are available to order from autumn 2015.
Midnight Edition: Blacked-Out Styling
The Colorado Midnight Edition follows the approach seen on the Silverado, applying an all-black theme to the midsize pickup. It features 18-inch black alloy wheels, a spray-on bedliner, soft tonneau cover, and black sill plates bearing the Chevrolet logo. The look is completed with blacked-out exterior trim and badging. This edition is available on the LT trim with a choice of extended or crew cab, two- or four-wheel drive, and any of the three engine options: 2.5-litre petrol, 3.6-litre petrol, or the 2.8-litre Duramax diesel producing 181 hp and 369 Nm of torque.
Z71 Trail Boss: Off-Road Focus
The Z71 Trail Boss is aimed at buyers seeking greater off-road ability. It builds on the Z71 trim with 17-inch black alloy wheels fitted with Goodyear Wrangler DuraTec all-terrain tyres, bold fender flares, and a sport bar with integrated LED lighting. Other features include tubular assist steps, a black bowtie grille emblem, and all-weather floor mats. Like the Midnight Edition, the Trail Boss can be specified with either cab style, two- or four-wheel drive, and the full engine range.
Availability and Positioning
Both the Midnight Edition and Z71 Trail Boss are available to order from autumn 2015. Pricing had not been announced at the time of launch. The new variants give Chevrolet a broader appeal in the competitive midsize pickup segment, targeting buyers who want either a more aggressive urban look or enhanced off-road capability. The Colorado’s updated engine lineup, including the new Duramax diesel, positions it as a strong rival to other updated trucks such as the 2016 Ford Ranger.
