2016 Range Rover Sport gains new tech and diesel engine option
Land Rover has updated the Range Rover Sport for 2016, adding new driver-assistance systems, enhanced connectivity and a diesel V6 option for the US market.
Land Rover has introduced a series of updates for the 2016 Range Rover Sport, focusing on enhanced technology, new assistance systems and an expanded engine line-up for selected markets. The changes affect both equipment and functionality, with a particular emphasis on connectivity and off-road capability.
Upgraded driver assistance and connectivity
The 2016 model year brings several new standard features to the Range Rover Sport. Land Rover has replaced the previous InControl Remote system with InControl Protect, which automatically contacts emergency services in the event of an accident. The InControl Remote Premium service now allows owners to lock and unlock the vehicle, sound the horn, flash the lights and reset the alarm remotely via smartphone.
All Terrain Progress Control is now standard, giving drivers the ability to set and maintain a low-speed crawl over difficult ground. The Auto Access Height system, designed to ease entry and exit, is also included as standard. Camera systems have been improved, with enhancements to both the surround view and rear camera functions.
Diesel V6 option for the US market
For the first time, US buyers can specify a 3.0-litre Td6 turbo diesel V6 engine in the Range Rover Sport. This engine produces 254hp and 595Nm of torque, with Land Rover quoting a combined fuel consumption figure of 24mpg (US). The diesel option is aimed at improving fuel efficiency for American customers, where diesel variants have previously been unavailable on this model.
Styling and equipment changes
A new Carbon Fibre Pack is available, adding high-gloss lacquered accents to the front grille, tailgate, side vents and mirror caps. The update also brings minor tweaks to standard and optional equipment, though Land Rover did not announce any price changes for the UK at launch.
Land Rover has confirmed that the SDV8 diesel now features a stop/start system, but full pricing and detailed specifications for the 2016 Range Rover Sport were not released at the time of the announcement. Further details are expected closer to the model’s arrival in showrooms.
