Citroën has updated its C5 saloon and C5 Tourer estate for the 2016 model year, introducing two new BlueHDi diesel engines, extra equipment and new styling features to keep the range competitive.

The main technical change comes under the bonnet. Both the C5 and C5 Tourer now offer two new diesel units: the BlueHDi 150 S&S paired with a six-speed manual, and the BlueHDi 180 S&S EAT with a six-speed automatic. Both engines comply with Euro 6 emissions regulations, aiming to reduce CO2 output and improve fuel efficiency across the range. Citroën says these units are available on all trim levels, but did not release official performance or consumption figures at launch.

Equipment and styling changes

Beyond the engines, Citroën has introduced a new exterior paint option called Moka Brown. Wheel designs have also been refreshed: Comfort trim models now come with 17-inch alloys, while Hydractive Exclusive variants get 18-inch wheels. Inside, the C5 gains a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which includes navigation, USB and audio streaming, and hands-free telephone connectivity. The onboard computer has also been updated.

  • 18-inch alloys for Hydractive Exclusive
  • 7-inch touchscreen with navigation and multimedia

Emissions and compliance

Both new BlueHDi engines are designed to meet the latest Euro 6 emissions standard. This aligns the C5 with regulatory requirements for diesel passenger cars in Europe from 2015 onwards. Citroën claims the new engines deliver lower CO2 emissions and improved fuel economy, but has not published exact figures.
