MINI has completed a new television commercial to promote its upcoming model, with the campaign set to air in the weeks leading up to the car’s official unveiling. The advert introduces the new-generation MINI alongside Spike, the English bulldog mascot, in a series of teaser images released by the company.

The commercial puts the new MINI in the spotlight with a playful narrative: Spike the bulldog takes his first ride in the car and is called upon to defend it against a much larger Great Dane. This approach continues MINI’s tradition of using quirky British motifs and characters to build anticipation around new models. The campaign is timed to run just ahead of the official debut, expected within weeks, as MINI aims to stoke interest before the car’s arrival in showrooms.

New MINI platform and engines

The new MINI rides on BMW’s UKL1 platform, which is set to underpin a range of future BMW and MINI models, including the next-generation 1-Series. This marks a technical shift for the brand, allowing for both front- and all-wheel drive variants. The engine line-up will include a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine producing 134hp, a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol with 189hp, and a 1.5-litre diesel delivering 114hp. The platform and powertrain changes are designed to improve efficiency and broaden the MINI’s appeal in the small car segment.

MINI’s decision to highlight the new model with a high-profile TV campaign reflects the importance of this launch for the brand. The car’s move to the UKL1 platform and the introduction of new engines signal a major update for the range, following on from previous versions and special editions. The new MINI is expected to play a central role in BMW’s broader plans for the UKL architecture, which will support up to ten different MINI variants in future, as previously outlined by the company.

Marketing focus and British identity

The use of Spike the bulldog in the commercial reinforces MINI’s British identity, a theme the brand has consistently used in its marketing. The campaign’s light-hearted tone is intended to connect with both long-time MINI enthusiasts and new buyers, keeping the car’s image fresh as it enters a new generation. MINI has a history of using creative advertising to distinguish itself in the crowded small car market, and the latest campaign continues that strategy as the new model prepares for launch.
