Geneva Motor Show 2014: A-Z of Key Premieres and Concepts

From the Ferrari California T to the Skoda VisionC, the 2014 Geneva Motor Show packed Palexpo with new models, world premieres and concepts from every major brand.

Geneva’s Palexpo opened its doors from 6 to 16 March 2014 for the 84th Geneva Motor Show, offering global debuts from Ferrari, Lamborghini, Audi, BMW, and dozens more. The event, organised by the OICA, drew crowds with a mix of production launches and headline-grabbing concepts.

Major world premieres

Ferrari used Geneva for the global unveiling of the California T, introducing a turbocharged V8 to its entry-level convertible. Lamborghini’s Huracán LP610-4 drew heavy attention as the successor to the Gallardo, with a new V10 and all-wheel drive. McLaren presented the 650S, positioned between the 12C and P1, while Koenigsegg brought the One:1 hypercar, claiming a megawatt of power.

BMW launched the 2 Series Active Tourer, its first front-wheel-drive model, and the new M3 and M4. Mercedes-Benz revealed the S-Class Coupé, which replaced the CL-Class, and the GLA45 AMG. Audi’s stand featured the new TT, S1 hot hatch, and the RS4 Avant Nogaro edition. Porsche showed the 911 Targa and Macan SUV, while Rolls-Royce brought the updated Ghost and the bespoke Waterspeed Phantom.

Volume brands also made news: Ford introduced the facelifted Focus, Renault launched the rear-engined Twingo, and Citroën revealed the C4 Cactus. Concepts and special editions

Concepts played a central role in 2014. Volvo’s Concept Estate previewed the brand’s future design direction. Hyundai showed the Intrado and PassoCorto studies, while Skoda’s VisionC coupe hinted at a new style for the Czech brand. The Lexus LF-NX and RC F GT3 concepts also drew attention. Qoros expanded its range with the 3 Estate and 3 Hatch, both on display as production-ready cars.

Among the tuners and performance specialists, ABT displayed the 730hp RS6-R, while MTM brought a modified Audi RS Q3. Gumpert unveiled the Explosion sports car, and Zenvo presented the ST1. For more on the ABT RS6-R, seeour detailed report from the show floor.

Practical information for visitors

Tickets for the 2014 show were priced at CHF 16 for adults and CHF 9 for children aged 6 to 16. Groups of more than 20 paid CHF 11 per person. The Palexpo complex was divided into seven halls, with floor maps available in PDF for advance planning. Opening hours ran from 10am to 8pm on weekdays and 9am to 7pm at weekends.
