2017 Ram Power Wagon Priced at $53,015 in the US
Ram’s heavy-duty Power Wagon returns for 2017 with a 6.4-litre V8, off-road hardware and a starting price above $53,000 including destination.
Ram has confirmed the 2017 Power Wagon will go on sale in the US with a starting price of $53,015, including a $1,320 destination charge. The off-road-focused truck is based on the Ram 2500 Heavy Duty platform and is expected to reach dealerships before the end of 2016.
The Power Wagon targets buyers seeking a factory-built solution for serious off-road work. Unlike the Ram 1500 Rebel, which shares some of its styling, the Power Wagon sits on the heavier-duty 2500 chassis. It is powered by a 6.4-litre Hemi V8 producing 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.
Off-road hardware and features
Standard kit includes front and rear locking differentials, an electronically disconnecting front sway bar for improved axle articulation, underbody skid plates and a Warn winch rated at 12,000 pounds. The Power Wagon rides on 33-inch all-terrain tyres and features a unique grille and bodywork inspired by the Ram 1500 Rebel, but built for heavier use.
Inside, the Power Wagon gets seats embossed with a tyre-tread pattern and Power Wagon logos on the bolsters. The cabin is designed to withstand the same sort of abuse as the truck’s underbody, targeting owners who expect to use the vehicle in demanding conditions.
Positioning and rivals
With its price and specification, the Power Wagon competes with other factory off-road pickups such as the Ford F-150 Raptor, which starts at $49,520 in the US but uses a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6. Unlike the Raptor, the Power Wagon is built on a three-quarter-ton chassis and is aimed at buyers who need both off-road capability and heavy-duty towing or payload.
