Jeep unveils Wrangler Polar limited edition at Frankfurt
Jeep has introduced the Wrangler Polar, a limited-run model inspired by Antarctic extremes, with its debut scheduled for the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Jeep has taken the wraps off the Wrangler Polar, a limited edition model set for its public debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. The Polar arrives in time for the IAA with distinctive styling and equipment, drawing inspiration from the harshest climates on earth.
The Wrangler Polar stands out with its Hydro Blue exterior, exclusive to this edition, paired with a black interior. Jeep will display the four-door Unlimited version at Frankfurt, but both two- and four-door models are confirmed for European sale. The Polar badge on the front wing carries the coordinates of Vostok in Antarctica, the site of the coldest recorded temperature on earth at -89.2°C, underlining the car’s theme.
Distinctive styling and equipment
Jeep has equipped the Polar with 18-inch gloss black alloy wheels, a body-colour hardtop and Mopar accessories. The cabin receives automatic climate control, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with integrated controls, and a height-adjustable driver’s seat. Standard kit also includes cruise control and Jeep’s Electronic Vehicle Information Centre.
An optional Polar Pack 1 adds front side airbags, a UConnect infotainment system with 6.5-inch touchscreen, navigation, a 40GB hard disk, USB and AUX ports, and a DVD player. Buyers can also specify the Dual Top option, providing both soft and hard tops.
Engines and off-road hardware
The Wrangler Polar will be offered with either the 2.8-litre turbo diesel or the 3.6-litre petrol V6, both familiar from the standard Wrangler range. Off-road capability is supported by a Dana 30 front axle, Dana 44 rear axle, and Jeep’s Command-Trac NV241 part-time, two-speed transfer case with a 2.72:1 low-range ratio. A Trac-Lok anti-spin rear differential is standard, reinforcing the model’s all-terrain credentials.
Availability and market context
Jeep has confirmed that the Wrangler Polar will reach European showrooms in the first quarter of 2014. The model joins a series of special edition Wranglers aimed at buyers seeking distinctive styling and enhanced equipment. Previous limited runs, such as the Arctic Edition, have proved popular with European customers looking for exclusivity and off-road capability.
