Skoda rules out Fabia RS for new generation
Skoda has confirmed it will not offer a performance RS version of the new-generation Fabia, instead focusing on standard and Monte Carlo variants for the upcoming launch.
Skoda will not produce an RS version of its upcoming Fabia, ending speculation about a performance model in the new generation. The company confirmed that the new Fabia, due to be unveiled at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, will be offered in standard trims and a Monte Carlo derivative, but no RS is planned.
Monte Carlo replaces RS as the sporty option
While the previous Fabia generation included a performance RS variant, Skoda has decided not to continue the tradition. The company will instead offer the Monte Carlo edition, which focuses on sporty design cues and trim details rather than outright performance. Buyers can expect a more dynamic look and feel, but without the uprated engine and chassis of a true hot hatch.
The Monte Carlo version will be available with a range of engines and gearboxes, but all are from the standard Fabia line-up. This approach mirrors Skoda’s strategy to offer sporty styling packages across its range without the development costs of dedicated performance models.
Engine range and technical details
For the new Fabia, Skoda will offer a 1.0-litre three-cylinder MPI petrol engine at the entry level and a 1.2-litre TSI as the most powerful petrol option, with outputs between 60 and 110 HP. Diesel buyers will have access to a 1.4-litre three-cylinder TDI, available in versions producing 75 HP and 105 HP. All engines are direct-injected, and the diesel units use common rail technology.

Skoda will officially present the new Fabia at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. The model sits below the Octavia in the Skoda line-up and competes in the supermini segment.
